2020 Summer Camp Cancellation
It is with great sadness that we share the news that we are canceling our five sessions of camp for summer 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For me and staff, this is the hardest decision about camp we have ever had to make. It is heartbreaking to know that campers and staff won’t be coming together here this summer. We are already missing the welcome sight of campers coming up the driveway and answering the call of "Campfire"
And, despite the difficulty of the decision, we know it is the right one. While camp is never risk-free, our first priority will always be the safety and health of our campers and staff. After listening carefully to guidance from public health officials in Humboldt County and California, the camp community, and professional organizations like the American Camp Association, and the CDC, we came to the conclusion that it would not be in the best interest of our campers, staff, and families to run our camp program this summer.
Camp is the opposite of social distancing. Our intention during the summer is to create a big family. We share family style meals, we hug, we dance, and at night, we circle up arm in arm to sing. Even if it were possible to have camp while maintaining social distancing, and we’re not sure that it is, it wouldn’t be a Lost Coast Camp summer.
This has impacted not only Camp, but each and every one of you in your own homes, personally and professionally. It is the hardship of this generation. Be assured that we here at Lost Coast Camp will see our way through this, just as we have previous difficulties, and that we will open (joyously!) for the summer of 2021.
